This is the fifth season in which Barnabé Hardy has conceived his leather jackets as a kind of urban armour. It was a natural evolution of the designer to be inspired by the city’s own elements : the reflection of neon lights on leather, a drop of rain running across a shoulder… Light makes its entry into the collection with silver or aged bronze leathers, worked as a total look or with more discreet woven leather. Black Swarovski crystals sparkle in a more austere geometry, reminiscent of raindrops as well as the dancefloor.
These “dressier” looks and the more universal parkas and bomber jackets share a square root. A trademark since the first collection, square padding now covers the whole torso and even influences a knitted version. Leather and knitwear operate a kind of metamorphosis, with dipped lambskin trimming sweaters and cardigans, while their shapes echo those of the jackets. Bomber jackets in Mongolian lamb and the famous “origami” jacket in shearling bring to mind the warmth and comfort of a favourite sweater. From deepest black to warmer shades (burgundy, cognac, camel), fabrics and colours reflect an urban elegance.
Another innovation this season is the presence of a new companion for the Barnabé Hardy man. A svelte shadow or a twin sister, she can follow in his steps by adopting her dream jacket, reworked to fit a female body. The V-neck sweater and parka travel directly from one wardrobe to another with a mere cinch of the waist.
She and him can also complete the look with a leather pant or a pair of gloves perfectly matched to their favourite jacket. Adopted as a new classic in the space of one season, the Ipad holder becomes an evening bag or travel purse.
